The Big Rock Candy Mountain
I just finished Big Rock Candy Mountain and I feel a similar weighty ache to the one I felt when I finished Crossing to Safety, although not quite as sharp. (Did Stegner feel like this all the time? Hope not…) It’s the kind of book you end with a deep sigh. I’m going to have to start something new and different soon to avoid playing out the end of this novel over and over in my head.
